In order for flapping-wing air vehicles (FWAVs) that use flapping motions like flying animals to achieve high performance, the design and analysis of FWAVs should be systematically conducted. It is essential to establish an unsteady aerodynamic model that can consider unsteady flow effects in the low Reynolds number region. In this study, the unsteady vortex method based on potential flow is modified to estimate the contribution of leading-edge vortices and is used to simulate the unsteady aerodynamics of the flapping wing model. The vortex-core growth model is used to consider the viscous effect of the wakes and to avoid singularity problems due to wing-wake and wake-wake interactions. The environment for reinforcement learning of the flapping wing model is established based on a deep neural network and the transfer learning is introduced to reduce time cost. The reward function for the learning objectives is designed, and optimal wing kinematics that leads to maximum lift/drag ratio and generates maximum thrust are investigated. The trained wing kinematics is applied to the flapping wing model and its aerodynamic characteristics and performance is analyzed by comparing it with insect wing kinematics.
