The purpose of this paper is to further investigate and contribute to the existing literature about government ideology and it’s effects on economy and innovation. This is be meaningful not only for voters, to help them choose the ruling party that would adjust more to the country’s needs and offer implications and information for companies to make the proper decision to promote their level of innovation; but also for anyone related to politics since they use ideologies to justify their power and to persuade the people to obey, follow and support them, rulers use ideologies of various kinds. Since the government definitely plays a big role in the innovation progress and economic growth, and ruling parties with different ideologies have different orientations, policy preferences, ethical ideals, principles, doctrines, myths and symbols and it has already been proven that ideology does affects economic growth and innovation, we can’t help but wonder: what effects do a left-wing, rightwing and center wing parties have on the process of innovation? How do these government ideology changes affect the innovation? This study further deepens the relationship between innovation with government ideology by classifying countries according to their level of income and running several panel regressions lagging the main variable to measure it’s effect over time for around 136 countries. Results definitely show a negative relationship between innovation and ideology, however it is only shown for middle income countries and below.
본 연구의 목적은 정부 이념과 그것이 경제 및 혁신에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보고 기존의 문헌에 기여하는 데 있다. 이 연구는 유권자들이 국가의 필요에 응하고 기업의 혁신 촉진을 위해 적절한 결정을 내리도록 함의와 정보를 제공하는 여당을 선택할 수 있도록 도울 뿐만 아니라, 정치와 관련된 사람이라면 누구나 자신의 권력을 정당화하고, 사람들을 설득해 따르고 지지하도록 다양한 종류의 이념을 사용한다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 정부는 혁신과 경제성장을 주도한다. 그리고 이념은 집권세력의 지향성, 선호 정책, 윤리적 이상, 원칙, 신조를 결정하기 때문에 이념이 혁신과 경제 성장과 영향을 미친다는 것은 이미 증명된 바 있다. 그렇다면 좌파, 우파, 중도파 정당들이 혁신 과정에 미치는 영향은 어떠한가? 그리고 이러한 정부 이념의 변화는 혁신에 어떤 영향을 미치는가? 이 연구는 136개 국가를 소득 수준에 따라 분류하고 이 136개 국의 이념 변화가 시간 경과에 따라 혁신에 미치는 영향을 패널 분석을 통해 살펴봄으로써 정부 이념과 혁신의 상관 관계를 알아보았다. 분석 결과, 정부 이념은 혁신과 음의 상관관계 가지지만, 그것은 중간 소득 이하 국가에서만 나타남을 확인하였다.
