This study is designed to explore how various factors influence users’ intent to continue to use game-centric transmedia, as well as their purchase intent through the media. Literature shows that previous studies have mainly focused on how storytelling based on intellectual property (IP) should be carried out to achieve corporate’s goal, rather than putting game players’ satisfaction and/or other responses. Therefore, this study has focused on user's intent to continue to play and making purchase during the use of game-centric transmedia as dependent variables, and explored user behavior of game-centric transmedia based on K-POP (Korean Pop Music).
Key variables are identified through review of literature, and based on the literature, survey was conducted on game-centric transmedia users who played either or to test the hypotheses. Collected data was processed and analyzed using SPSS 22.0, which was mainly used for descriptive statistics and conducting regression analysis.
As a result, intent to continue to use game-centric transmedia was found to be influenced by user’s impulsive purchase behavior, perceived enjoyment, flow and satisfaction (all of these were statistically significant). The other dependent variable, purchase intent, was found to be significantly influenced by user’s brand royalty, impulsive purchase behavior and satisfaction. It was also found that the interaction with different types of game-centric transmedia has a significant moderating effect on how impulsive purchase behavior influences dependent variables (i.e., intent to continued usage, and purchase intent), as well as other independent variables.
Discussion on how the findings can be used for building strategic management of user community and marketing is discussed toward the end of this thesis.
