Propagation of methane-air and propane-air premixed flames was investigated using a Narrow-Gap-Disk-Burner (NGDB) of which disk-gap could be controlled precisely under constant-volume processes. Quenching distances and the flammability limits were measured with the elevation of the initial absolute pressure up to 2 bar. Quenching distances under the constant volume conditions were much smaller than those under the constant pressure conditions at the same initial absolute pressure. Flame propagation characteristics were compared at a few representative equivalence ratios for methane and propane flames. In overall, a trend change in the flame propagation characteristics could be found; i.e., cellular flame structures could be found within a small disk-gap regardless of Lewis number while the flame shapes became smooth within a larger disk-gap. There were some differences in flame propagation characteristics compared to a previous study which was conducted under a constant-pressure condition. Furthermore, disk-gap effects were investigated and effects of higher initial pressure were observed.
