In the last five years, the technology related to machine translation has taken on a new paradigm. The new neural network machine translation, which emerged with the development of artificial intelligence technology, showed a significantly higher translation quality and significantly fewer errors than the existing statistical machine translation. Along with advances in machine translation technology, voice recognition and voice synthesis technologies have also developed, and portable translation devices have become commercialized. Based on these technological achievements, people have come to expect the arrival of a world without language barriers to language. However, the era of exploding data is also looming, with the collapse of language barriers and the elimination of socio-cultural contexts that relied on existing languages. Therefore, this dissertation looks at the socio-cultural impact of the data glut that will bring as these neural network machine translations grow as new media. The impact is to focus on four cognitive operating mechanisms presented by the overload of data beyond human cognitive abilities and the resulting four social phenomena.
지난 5년 여간 사이에 기계번역과 관련한 기술은 새로운 패러다임을 맞이했다. 인공지능 기술의 발전과 함께 떠오른 새로운 신경망 기계번역은 기존의 통계적 기계번역에 비해 월등히 높아진 번역 품질과 현저히 적어진 오류를 선보였다. 이러한 기계번역 기술의 진보와 함께 음성인식과 음성합성 기술 역시 발전하며, 휴대용 통역 디바이스 역시 상용화되기에 이르렀다. 이러한 기술적 성과를 바탕으로 사람들은 언어의 장벽이 없는 세상의 도래를 기대하게 되었다. 하지만 언어 장벽의 붕괴와 함께 기존 언어에 의존해 있던 사회문화적 맥락이 제거된 데이터가 폭발하는 시대 역시 다가오고 있다. 따라서 본 학위논문에서는 이러한 신경망 기계번역이 새로운 미디어로서 성장함에 따라 가져올 데이터 과잉에 따른 사회문화적 영향을 살펴보고자 한다. 해당 영향은 인간의 인지 능력을 초월한 데이터의 과부하로 인해 발현된 인지적 작동 기제 4가지와 그로 인한 사회현상 4가지를 집중적으로 검토하고자 한다.
