Colloidal assembly is a powerful technique in which a 2D or 3D colloidal crystal can be formed in a large area without any complex procedures. Optical properties of nanostructures with periodic arrays can be realized by colloidal assembly: inverse opal structures exhibit structural colors by photonic bandgap and gold-deposited porous structures exhibit colors by surface plasmon resonance. In this thesis, we study the photonic nanostructures in which a negative photoresist is used as a template to thermally control the optical properties from the irreversible creep deformation and to create a color patterning of the nanostructures through the photolithographic process for the photonic applications such as colorimetric thermal recording or plasmonic color patterning.
