In this thesis, a novel readout circuit for uncooled microbolometer is presented. A thermal imaging system suffers from PVTFSh(process, voltage, temperature, flicker noise and self-heating) variation which has a larger signal than the signal containing scene radiation. Especially, microbolometer is strongly dependent on the substrate temperature and the output voltage at AFE drifts rapidly with the substrate temperature resulting in analog saturation and reduced scene dynamic range. Furthermore, mismatch in microbolometer array and voltage variation due to temperature dependent threshold voltage induce non-uniformity resulting in output dispersion and degradation of image quality. The proposed readout circuit based on constant current bias provides a wide and nearly constant dynamic range and the unwanted signal due to the process, voltage, temperature variation can be effectively eliminated. Additionally, it can make not only a calibration process be simple but also a memory used to save calibration coefficients be reduced. The effect of proposed readout circuit will be shown by mathematical analysis and simulated results.
