This dissertation explores a vapor-jet printing (VJP) technology as an additive process that can print electronic materials from vapor phase so that electronic/optoelectronic devices can be made without mask and solvent at significantly reduced cost and material usage. The VJP under study first vaporizes materials to be printed in its source chamber by controlled heating; the vapor is then picked up and delivered by inert carrier gas through a nozzle to a cold substrate, where the vapor is condensed to form a film. While the initial VJP was developed for organic materials, this work not only advances the conventional organic VJP (OVJP) but also extend its capability so that it can be extended to oxides, which are an important class of emerging electronic materials but have been considered virtually impossible to be vapor-jet printed due to their high process temperature. In particular, this work proposes a novel VJP method where organometallic precursors of oxides, which typically have a low
evaporation temperature, are vapor-jet printed first and then converted to functional oxide films via UV or thermal post processing
