The objective of this work is to develop a radiation-hardened-by-design 10-bit fully differential successive approximation register analog-to-digital converter readout circuit of ultrasonic sensors for small modular reactors. Radiation resistant ultrasonic and robotic sensor systems are essential for detection and measurement of vibration, temperature, radiation, corrosion, wall thickness, defects and flaws in welds and bolted regions, and residual stresses in small modular reactor structures. In order to successfully investigate these properties, sensors and the associated readout circuit must be fully functional at an elevated temperature and radiation environment inside a small modular reactor. To achieve this goal, radiation tolerant interface circuits are investigated, developed and tested under radiation exposures. Successive approximation register analog-to-digital converters have great advantages in terms of high resolution and high speed with low power dissipation, and are thus optimum readout circuits for robotic sensor systems. In this thesis, I will mainly discuss the analog-to-digital converters along with radiation effects on transistors, and explain the implementations.
