Recently the admission officer system has been controversial in terms of fairness. The key of the system is to estimate various talents and possibilities of students. However, the assessment process has encountered public criticism for unfairness problem. This study is on how press reports affect public perception of fairness of the system. The study findings are based on analysis of articles of 3 years and depth interviews. The result is that most articles are focused on information provision on college admission and there is not a direct correlation between the ideological tendency of media and the view of each report regarding the issue. Additional interviews and analysis show that the tone of articles is affected by the opinion of reporter or other various factors such as sources and advertisers rather than the inclination of media. The conclusion of this study is that mass media plays a limited role in influencing the perception of fairness on the admission officer system. People classify and select articles which are close to their own thoughts about problems they know very well.
최근 대입 학생부종합전형의 공정성 논란이 사회적 쟁점이 됐다. 학생부종합전형은 점수가 아닌 지원자의 다양한 가능성과 잠재력 등을 평가해 선발하는데 그 과정이 불투명하고 평가자의 주관이 개입될 여지가 있어 불공정하다는 비판이 제기된다. 본 연구에서는 대중의 학생부종합전형 공정성 인식에 언론 보도가 어떤 영향을 미쳤는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 약 3년간의 언론 매체별 관련 보도를 수집해 내용을 분석하고 심층 인터뷰를 실시했다. 분석 결과 학생부종합전형 기사는 대입정보 제공 등 기능적 보도가 다수였다. 매체별 이념 성향에 따라 학생부종합전형을 바라보는 프레임에도 영향을 끼칠 것이라 가정했으나, 실제 연구에서는 유의미한 상관성을 확인하지 못했다. 추가 인터뷰와 분석을 통해 언론의 학생부종합전형 보도는 매체 논조보다는 기자 개인의 판단, 취재원·광고주 등 여타 요인의 영향을 많이 받는다고 판단하였다. 또 언론의 학생부종합전형 보도는 대중의 공정성 인식에 매우 제한적인 영향력을 발휘했다고 분석했다. 사람들은 자신이 당사자거나 잘 알고 있는 문제에 대해서 자신의 생각에 부합하는 보도와 그렇지 않은 보도를 나눠 취사선택해 수용한다는 결론을 내렸다.
