Space logistics delivering crews, propellants, and other commodities in interplanetary space, is essential for the success of long-term deep space missions. Optimization of mission architecture design is required to minimize the cost and risk of space logistics. A framework for mission architecture design of space logistics is proposed in this thesis, composed of three steps - design of system elements, plan of operation, management of risk. First, functional requirements of modules are set using modular design approach, which increases the flexibility of the system. In the next step, operation plan minimizing the initial mass in low Earth orbit is obtained as a solution of time-expanded network flow problem. Based on the operation plan, design modification of modules are suggested to improve the efficiency of the mission. In the last step, failure scenario tree, contingency plans, and indices for risk assessment are obtained. This framework assists decision making of mission architecture design of the space logistics by integration of design, operation, and risk. A case study on hypothetical long-term Mars mission was conducted to show the efficacy of the proposed framework.
