Grip posture and grasp force are basic and important features in how to use a tool. In reality, when you learn how to use a tool, you learn how to hold it first. In this study, we try to imitate this reality grip behavior on virtual reality (VR) to make game control feel more natural and to improve VR game experience through it. Based on the scenarios from the workshop, I implemented two grip- sensing controllers for two of the most popular VR game genres. For the experiment, VR shooting game and adventure game were designed and the prototypes were built to perceive the grip pattern. The prototype for shooting game detects grip posture in more detail and the prototype for adventure game detect grasp force in more detail. Observing the task load and game experience of the subjects through questionnaires and interviews showed that the grip-sensing controller has more physical load, but it is more intuitive than the key mapping input method and enhances the game experience. Utilizing real world grip behavior makes the interaction on the VR game natural and provides a more enjoyable game experience for the user. This study confirmed the possibility of the grip-sensing controller as a VR game interface and discussed the effect.
