Things are developed as not only smart things, but also social actors. In the context of multiple things proactively initiating interaction with a user and other connected things, conversation is considered as the next form of interaction because humans perceive it as natural communication. Accordingly, conversational Internet of Things (IoT) that can talk with humans are being introduced in the market. However, HCI research has mainly focused on conversational interaction with a single thing or single agent. Therefore, this paper aims to figure out user-centered ways to design conversational IoT by exploring user’s experience and expectation on multiple IoT devices and their mediator agent in a home environment based on empirical studies.
단순히 기능적인 역할만을 수행해왔던 제품들은 최근 고도화된 지능을 탑재함으로써 사회적인 대상이 되어가고 있다. 다수의 사물들이 사용자 혹은 서로 다른 사물들에게 인터랙션을 선제적으로 시도할 수 있어진 환경에서, 사람에게 있어 매우 자연스러운 인터랙션 형태인 "대화"는 사물인터넷 컨텍스트에서의 주요한 인터랙션 방식으로 부상하고 있다. 그 결과 시장에서는 엘지전자의 홈챗과 같은 대화형 사물인터넷 시스템이 지속적으로 등장하고 있다. 반면, 인터랙션 디자인 연구 분야에서는 다수의 사물인터넷과의 대화 인터랙션보다는 단 하나의 에이전트, 혹은 단 하나의 시스템과 사용자 간의 인터랙션에 집중하여 연구가 진행되고는 추세이다. 따라서 본 연구는 관련 문헌 연구와 사용자 조사 및 디자이너 워크샵 형태의 실증 연구를 통해 홈 컨텍스트를 중심으로, 대화형 사물인터넷 환경에서의 사용자의 경험과 기대를 탐색하고, 이를 바탕으로 대화형 사물인터넷 인터랙션의 사용자 중심 디자인에 대한 가이드라인을 개발한다.
