It is important to speculate about the future from diverse user perspectives because changes caused by advancing technology are experienced differently depending on the social group. However, marginalized users, such as homosexuals, are largely neglected in the future-oriented research within the Human- Computer Interaction (HCI) field. To tackle this issue, I propose the concept of "participatory design fiction" as a strategy for speculating the future in marginalized users' shoes. The contribution of this thesis is fourfold. First, it suggests a participatory design fiction kit to help end-users create design fiction on their own. Second, it contributes a set of design fiction proposals generated by using the kit. Third, it verifies the value and the results of the kit. Lastly, it suggests the implications of participatory design fiction as an empathic design tool.
