This thesis offers a Foucauldian perspective on AI governance by exploring the existential crisis from superintelligence as a governmentality issue with both biopolitical and geographical implications. By drawing insights from the current literature on the existential risk from AI as well as biopolitical and geographical works on Foucault’s concept of governmentality, this thesis argues that while the conceptualization of intelligence within the context the existential crisis suggests a novel kind of biopolitics which conceives humanity in terms of cognitive capabilities, the spatiality of the notion of AI highlights the need for a geography of governmentality which accounts for how such notion enables the formation of ensembles of global catastrophic risks according to particular rationalities of governance.
본 논문은 초지능으로 인한 존재적 위기를 푸코 철학의 통치성 개념을 통해 분석함으로써 인공지능 거버넌스의 생명정치적 및 지리학적 측면들을 조명하고자 한다. 초지능으로 인한 존재적 위기의 맥락에서 이해되는 지능의 개념은 인간을 신체적 특징 및 생리적 과정이 아닌 인지적 역량을 통해 이해하는 생명정치의 가능성을 시사한다. 한편, 존재적 위기의 맥락에서 정의되는 인공지능의 개념이 지니는 공간성은 인공지능의 개념이 어떻게 다양하고 이질적인 세계재앙위험들의 총제적인 이해와 관리를 가능하게 하는지를 설명할 수 있는 통치성의 지리학의 필요성을 시사한다.
