Therefore, institutional investors have to spend significant amount of the time when considering factors to select a “Good” manager in many senses. According to studies in respect of the hedge fund industry, there exists a consensus in the market that emerging hedge fund managers perform better than established managers do. An important thing is that most studies regarding this subject had been completed prior to 2010. It leads this thesis to investigate if the same result still shows after 2010. As a result, those emerging hedge fund managers, which categorized by their fund AUM and years since inception, outperforms established hedge fund managers. Furthermore, since every individual hedge funds have different terms in regards to subscription agreements or side-letters, this thesis also investigates about the effect of different terms of agreements on their returns. Consequently, contract terms which motivates mangers to perform better, such as High Water Mark and Hurdle Rate statistically exhibit their influence on their returns.
