Microalloying medium carbon steel is one of the general hot forging materials. To improve the mechanical properties and machinability of microalloying steel, understanding of hot deformation and dynamic softening behavior are necessary. However, the study of Boron added microalloying medium carbon steel is few despite many manufacturers already use this steel. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is that the effect of Boron and Niobium addition on the hot deformation and dynamic recrystallization of commonly used Nb-microalloying medium carbon steel. In addition, prior austenite grain size before deformation is to be important variable to understanding of dynamic recrystallization of microalloying steel. Thus another aim of this work is to understand the effect of initial austenite grain size on the dynamic recrystallization of B-Nb microalloying medium carbon steel. To investigate the initial austenite grain size on the dynamic recrystallization of B-Nb microalloying medium carbon steel, initial grain size be controlled by specific heat-treatment. After that, B-Nb microalloying medium carbon steels are conducted by hot compressive test at various deformation temperatures and strain rate. To reveal the Boron and Niobium addition effect on the hot deformation and dynamic recrystallization, not only B-Nb microalloying medium carbon steel but also Nb- and B- microalloying medium carbon steels (other compositions are same with B-Nb microalloying medium carbon steel without Boron and Niobium) are conducted by hot compressive test at various deformation temperature and strain rate. After that, dynamic recrystallization kinetics is studied by work hardening curve, dynamic recrystallization fraction and flow curves modeling. The fine initial austenite grain size accelerates the dynamic recrystallization kinetics because of the large of grain boundary area which can be nucleation site of recrystallized grains. And the addition of Boron and Niobium can change the hot deformation and dynamic recrystallization behavior caused by non-equilibrium segregating of Boron and dynamic precipitating during deformation.
