This study examines how well a five-factor model that adds profitability (RMW) and investment (CMA) factors to the three-factor model of Fama and French (1993) captures average returns from sorts on the anomalies in the Korean stock market such as marekt beta, net share issue, volatiliy, accruals, momentum and liquidity. The overall performance of the five-factor model is improved, compared to the three-factor model. The improvement is relatively considerable for market beta, net share issue and liquidity. But, it is insignificant for volatility and momentum. Specifically, negative exposures to RMW capture the low average returns associated with high market beta, large share issues, high volatility, strong momentum and high liquidity, whereas CMA does not have patterns.
