In developing Korean Business Reengineering (hereinafter called as BR) Methodology, following Korean circumstances which are closely related with BR should be incorporated.
1. Creative power, which is essential in BR, is weaker than that of American who developed the concept of BR.
2. Three kinds of innovations for BR such as Process, Product and Mind should be developed at the same time. However, more emphasis should be put on Mind innovation.
3. Company infrastructure is not fully established and analysis of current process is difficult.
4. The will of Top Management for innovation is considered to be strong in initial stage but it decreases as time pass by.
5. The connection with the company's existing Management system should be considered.
With the above in mind, BR Methodology has been developed in six steps. This study is the first attempt in Korea and should be updated as experiences are accumulated.
step 1 : Preparations
In this step, company vision, necessity of BR and utilization plan for surplus manpower are established and a team for BR is organized.
step 2 : Process selection
In this step, one or two processes are selected based on the criteria such as customer impact, performance, changeability and business impact. Process improvement target is also established.
step 3 : Process Analysis
In this step, analysis for the People, Process and System is performed and baselines for the above three dimensions are established. Also, Intervention model for the three dimensions are developed and this model will act as a framework for the detailed redesign work. Brainstorming technique is used to get a creative power.
step 4 : Redesign and Simulation
In this step, redesign works for the People, Process and System are performed and redesigned process performance is simulated and predicted. Organization of self-motivated teams and preparation of performance evaluation methods should be made. Storyboarding technique is used.
step 5 : Application of Information Technology
In this step, redesign of Information Technology which is appropriate for the redesigned process and organization is performed. Stepwise application of Information Technology is important.
step 6 : Measurement of redesigned process performance
In this step, measurement system of performance after BR is established. This measurement system is used for continuous improvement after BR.
