In many factories, the processes of adjustment and testing of assembled products are being conducted manually, and as a trend, the need for automation of these processes is increasing for enhanced productivity and high quality. Some characteristics of the adjustment processes, however, make the automation a very difficult task. In this paper, we investigate these characteristics and suggest an intelligent control approach as a paradigm of automation of adjustment processes. We then apply this method to an ITC(integrate tube component) process, an essential process in manufacturing color picture tubes(CPTs), in which are tested and adjusted various properties of the CPT such as tilt, white balance, purity, convergence, focus and so on. We suggest an algorithm to control static convergence of CPT and show via experiments that this algorithm is successfully applied for real systems.
