We consider a design problem for the segmentation and reassembly(SAR) sublayer with a shared buffer in an asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) switch. An ATM switch consists of a number of switching modules for reliability and maintenance. Like service traffics, control messages from each module are also segmented into cells of a fixed size, transmitted to the destination modules, and reassembled at each destination. These functions are controlled by the SAR sublayer function block under a stringent performance requirement of cell blocking probabilities, $10^{-9}-10^{-12}$.
We first model the function block as a tandem queue model with an infinite buffer to approximate the blocking probabilities. For more realistic analysis, we develop a simulation model. To simulate rare events of blocking, we use the rare event simulation technique based on the generalized extreme value theory.
본 연구에서는 비동기식 전달모드(ATM) 교환기에서 분할및 재결합부의 공유버퍼 설계문제를 다룬다. 비동기식 전달모드 교환기는 신뢰성과 유지보수를 위해 여러개의 모듈로 구성되어 있다. 소스모듈로부터의 제어신호는 서비스트래픽과 마찬가지로 고정된 크기의 셀들로 나뉘어지어 목적지까지 전달되어 다시 조립되어 진다. 이러한 기능들은 $10^{-9}-10^{-12}$ 정도의 셀 손실확률 성능요구하에서 분할및재결합 부계층 기능블럭에 의해서 제어된다.
셀손실확률을 근사하기위해 기능블럭을 무한버퍼를 가진 직렬대기행렬로 모델링하고 좀 더 현실적인 분석을 위하여 시뮬레이션 모델을 제시한다. 이러한 희소사건을 모의실험하기 위하여 일반화된 극대값 이론에 근거한 모의실험방법을 사용한다.
