The land vehicle system (LVS) like an automobile is one of the most important transportation system. Though it can give convenience to the human, it always contains the danger like a traffic accident. Therefore, the importance of its safety is increasing more than ever. For the safety of the LVS, several sensors as ultrasonic sensor, vision sensor, and optic sensor must be used. Because the LVS is driven outdoors with high speed, the ultrasonic sensor which can find objects in the narrow range and the vision sensor which is unable to process sensor data in real time can not be used. In this thesis, utilizing RF wave generally used in the radar system, we develope and implement the digital-controlled servo loop (DCSL) range sensor with digital controller composed of logic circuits. We actually measure distance longer than 5 m using the DCSL range sensor, calculate the error rate and the airbone installation delay of the DCSL range sensor from distance measurement data, and finally consider that the milimeter wave is able to be applied to the DCSL range sensor.
