The ethanol of high purity is obtained using the packed distillation column and the diffusion distillation column. At first, the packed distillation column is used so that the ethanol of low concentration is raised about the azeotropic point. This mixture is over azeotropic point by diffusion distillation. Finally, the ethanol of high purity is produced by packed column with Sulzer packing material.
In this process, it needs no auxiliaries or complicated apparatus used other processes. The diffusion distillation is the evaporation and condensation process below the boiling temperature filled with the inert gas. The inert gas remains stagnant not to make forced convection. The heat required to the evaporation is supplied through the outside wall.
In this paper, the experiments in the packed and the diffusion distillation column are performed and the computer simulation in the diffusion distillation is carried out at some conditions. According to the results, when the temperature of feed entering the column is 40℃ and the gap size is 6.95 mm at air, it shows better separation effect than the temperature of feed is 30℃, the gap size is 3.65 mm at air. And this results are compared with McDowell's model.
