The purpose of this dissertation is to extract determinants affecting the outcome of university-industry cooperative R&D project(UICP) in Korea. Additionally differences of two types of UICPs-collaborative R&D project and contracted-out R&D project-on the determinants were detected. The outcome of UICP in this study was broken down into two parts. These parts were as follow : technological outcome and technology transfer.
Data was collected via telephone-interview and questionnaire. Total 48 data on the UICP cases were used for statistical analyses. The research model and related hypotheses were tested using pearson correlation analysis, generalized linear model, regression, chi-square test and t-test.
The major findings of this study are as follows ;
1) With respect to the hypothesis related to the technological outcome, R&D capabilities and the degree of involvements of university, communication within the organization involving the project were found to be significant.
2) Significant factors associated with the degree of technology transfer are additional activities of the organizatins involving the project, R&D capabilities and willingness to development of the firm and communication within the organizations involving the project.
3) Determinants affecting the outcome of UICPs were different at UICP types (collaborative R&D project and contracted-out R&D project) partially.
But these findings should be interpreted with caution, since this study has several limitations in measurement and sampling method. Further research is suggested and encouraged with more elaborated methodology, and with more suitable samples of new UICPs.
