An electro-optical multilayer Perceptron is implemented by using a holographic lenslet array(HLA) and liquid crystal display(LCD) panels. The LCD panel used for storing interconnection weights has 256×256 pixels, and each interconnection weight is represented by 2×2 pixels after considering limitation on optical interconnection that employs the LCD panel and the HLA. The multilayer perceptron has 10×10 input-layer neurons, 6x6 hiddenlayer neurons, and 4×4 output-layer neurons. Input-dependen thresholding is used to allow only positive interconection weigths. This multilayer Perceptron maps ten Arabic numeral patterns onto corresponding binary coded patterns.
