Transverse effective elastic moduli of fiber-reinforced composite having circular-arc shaped interfacial cracks are computer using the generalized self-consistent method. In order to obtain the effective elastic moduli, it is necessary to determine the potential energy of the composite without cracks and the potential energy difference of the composite between the cases with and without cracks. The generalized self-consistent method(GSCM) was employed to evalute the potential energy difference; the circular arc-shaped crack exists in the interface of the fiber, and the matrix, which is surrounded by the effective medium.
The result of this study(GSCM) is compared with the results of self-consistent method(SCM) and dilute concentration method, and it is found that the result of GSCM lies in between the SCM and the dilute concentration method.
