The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the question how R&D projects in laboratories can be performed effectively. Based on an information processing model, R & D projects' characteristics, environmental variability faced by project's team members and interdependence with other areas are considered as factors influencing information processing requirements, and technical communication patterns of project teams, existence of gatekeepers, R & D project group's structural properties are considered as factors influencing information processing capacities. The results are somewhat different from rational behavior patterns of developed nation's results.
The major findings are as follows:
First, high performing applied research projects, development research projects, technical service projects are not only directed on different areas for technical communication and are also different frequencies repectively.
Second, in the cases of development research projects, centralization of the communication structure is positive correlation with performance significantly and in the cases of applied research projects, centralization of the communication structure is negative relationship but not significant with performance.
Third, confined to this paper, gatekeepers are little implication to performance in our country's laboratories. But this gatekeeper phenomena should be studied further via different identification method of gatekeeper roles.
Fourth, structural properties of high performing project groups are different in accordance with project's characteristics. High performing applied research projects are more organic than high performing development research projects of technical service projects. And high performing development research projects are more organic than technical service projects.
