In this thesis the grating lobe problem and its reduction methods in the ultrasound synthetic focusing are studied. compared to the conventional dynamic focusing, the signal to noise ratio of a image in synthetic focusing is worse because the distance between grating lobe and main lobe is more closer and the magnitude of grating lobe is more greater.
The computer simulation shows that the proposed two element receiving method cancels first grating lobe without any undesirable effects. And apodization method proposed for second grating lobe reduction also shows good result. Experiments in a water tank and a phantom are performed and the obtained images show increased signal to noise ratio.
