2-Vinylcyclopropanone-1, 3-propanediol ketal (VCP-PK) was prepared from cyclopropenone-1,3-propanediol ketal reacting with vinyl copper and its polymerization behavior was investigated.
Polymerization of the VCP-PK was carried out with radical initiators and ionic initiators. VCP-PK polymerized by radical initiators in neat or in solution gave solid polymers which were soluble in chloroform. However, the attempts to polymerize VCP-PK with ionic initiators failed.
The bulk polymerization of VCP-PK with AIBN initiator gave 52% of 1, 5-type, 28% of 1,2-type, 20% of 1-9-type polymer. But, with DTBP initiator, 1,2-type polymer was mainly obtained.
