This dissertation presents an adaptive control strategy for complex-shaped cams in the cylindrical plunge grinding process. The adaptive control is implemented in two steps : in-process measurement of cam profile and subsequent control action to obtain the required shape.
Various measuring principles using two or three probes are studied and their limitations are explained from the viewpoint of in-process use. Finally, a control scheme is suggested for precise cam grinding and its validity is proved through computer simulation.
