This paper describes the design, analysis and results of the performance test of a rosette scan radiation sensor which can be used to detect the coordinate of a radiation source. Optical rosette scan is achieved by two rotating wedges which are designed according to the proposed sensor specifications. Electrical rosette scan is simulated using two encoders, which are synchronized with the rotating wedges, and two Type II Phase locked loop. Collimated He-Ne laser is used as a radiation source. The radiation signal from the target is detected by a silicone photo-diode and is used to sample the X, Y coordinate from the simulated rosette scan pattern. Digital signal processing for the extended target case is discussed. From the performance test, the rightness and usefulness of this principle is shown.
