The continuous innovative development of information technology is accelerating the boom in Fintech, which refers to the combination of finance and technology to provide more efficient financial services. Fintech covers a wide range of services, such as remittances, payments, investments, crowdfunding, insurance, and big data analysis. One promising new Fintech service is convenient mobile payment systems, expected to be widely used due to their convenience for daily transactions. This study examines the impact of passive innovation resistance (PIR) and the mediating effect of four product-specific barriers (compatibility, value, complexity, and risk barriers) on active innovation resistance (AIR) in the case of two convenient mobile payment systems. Using a structural model with 228 respondents who had experienced both a standard mobile payment system and one of the convenient mobile payment systems, we found that PIR is directly and positively associated with AIR. In addition, while the value and risk barriers have mediating effects on AIR, the compatibility and complexity barriers do not.
