An experimental study of the typical turbulent jet diffusion flame to acquire the behavior of the flame zone and interaction of combustion reaction with turbulent mixing is carried out. The influence of the combution reaction of the turbulent characteristics is examined for the turbulent propane jet flame. Suppression of the turbulent mixing between turbulent fuel jet with ambient air by combustion reaction is highlighted.
Three kinds of visualization method which are Schlieren and two kinds of direct photographs are used. For the direct photographs, one of visible source from the flame is that from the reaction zone and another source is that from the particle scattering light for the incident source. In order to seed the particle, $TiCl_4$ vapor is added into the nozzle fluid. Therefore, three visualization methods have a different information. In addition, distributions of the time mean temperature and concentration are measured to evaluate and explain the results of several visualization.
It is observed that combustion products from the reaction zone suppress the turbulent motion and stable reaction zone in spatial can be explained whereas the fuel jet is injected in fully turbulence.
