In this thesis, we study the implementation of the CCITT X.200 series upper layer communication protocol, and analyze the performance of flow control.
In the implementation of transport, session, and presentation layers, we design the software structure with modularity, assuming that the transport layer is interfaced with X.25 network layer and can be operate in the multi-user environment. Also, we analyze the end-to-end flow control with a queueing model having forward and backward delay for the reliable end-to-end transmission in the transport layer.
In our analysis, we first investigate the effect of this control scheme assuming no delay, and then study the performance of the scheme assuming forward and backward delay, such as mean system occupancy, blocking probability at the receive buffer, and retransmission probability at the (sub)network using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta procedure.
From this analysis, it has been found that the occupancy level of the receive buffer can be made to be stable and blocking probability at the receive buffer can be made small in an overload period when the system utilization factor $\rho_o$ exceeds1.
