This paper suggests a method to design the rotation-free optical sensor which provides two-dimensional position information w.r.t. base coordinate system regardless of sensor rotation.
The principle of coordinate transformation which employs analog signals for calculation of trigonometric function is presented. By using analog circuites, a sensor output can be transformed into information w.r.t. base coordinate system. The sensor system which consists of a position sensing unit and coordinate transformation unit is implemented. The position sensing unit composed of IR LED, Photo Tr, and fiber optics. The position information which generated from the position sensing unit is transformed into information w.r.t. base coordinate system in the coordinate transformation unit.
From the performance test, the rightness of this principle is manifested and it is shown that this sensor system can be applied in machine control without digital computation.
