The purpose of this study are to find the determinants of department store labor productivity and to analysis the causal relationship of the determinants by auto regression causal model.
The data used in this study were available over the period 1978-1988.
The method is Hsiao causal test procedure.
The results of this study are summarized as follows :
First, capital intensity has an influence on labor productivity through technical effect.
Also labor productivity has an influence on capital intensity.
Second, income has an influence on labor productivity through consumer consumption behavior change and market size increasing effect.
Also, income has an influence on labor productivity by increasing wage and automobile ownership.
Third, wage has a feedback effect on labor productivity each other.
Fourth, automobile ownership has a positive influence on labor productivity not through transaction size effect but through economy of scale.
Fifth, population growth and product assortment have a positive influence on labor productivity.
Sixth, store size has an influence on labor productivity not through price down but through wage increase.
