This research is mainly concerned with discussing techniques to design dynamic vibration absorber, and developing an efficient method for designing the dynamic vibration absorber in case that external forces are unknown. The method transforms the given equation of motion into modal coordinates of the undamped original structure and select one modal coordinate of interest. The proposed method is valid only for lightly damped systems.
To demonstrate the effectiveness of the new method in designing the dynamic vibration absorber, numerical examples are presented. Simulation results show that the proposed method is efficient for designing the dynamic vibration absorber in case that excitation forces of the vibrating structure are unknown.
