This paper describes the dispersibility of three types of soils used as core materials in two Korean dams.
The objective of this study is to identify dispersibility of the above mentioned soils and to investigate the influence of various factors such as time, eroding fluid and pore fluid on dispersibility.
The samples were the core material of An-Dong Dam; a decomposed granitic soil and the two types clayey sand which are being used as core materials of Im-Ha Dam. Pinhole test and chemical test for identifying dispersibility of soil were performed.
It was known by the pinhole test results that each sample was nondispersive. For 10 hour of flow, there was no visible erosion in pinhole test. When dispersing agent was added to the eroding fluid, the specimens showed weakly erosive. The results of chemical tests for IBM sample did not agree with those of pinhole tests. Therefore, it is recommended that the chemical criteria for identifying dispersibility of the Korean soils need to be checked through further experiment.
