To estimate the temporal and altitudinal change of chemical composition in raindrops an atmosphere from the scavenging of pollutants both within and below cloud, the coupled processes of pollutant mass transfer into raindrops, the chemical equilibra of carbonates, nitric acid, sulfates, and ammonia, and the kinetics of S(IV) s oxidation with hydrogen peroxide and ozone were utilized in the development of this acid rain model. From the in-cloud dynamic processes, the vertical variation of precipitation rate within each cloud layer could be specified.
The simulated pH values of wet deposition during fall seasons of 1985 and 1987 in Seoul area were compared to the field observed ones, and the value of correlation coefficient (r) was 0.57. And for the quantified management of acid rain, the sensitivity analyses were performed with the ambient SO2 concentration, cloud layer thickness, and the ground level precipitation rate.
