Nanostructure ceramics, even though they have enormous potential for advanced applications such as solar cell or MEMS devices, haven’t been reached to the same level of knowledge in perspective of fracture comparing to the other properties. Therefore in this study, we investigate the fracture behavior of brittle ceramics by changing sample sizes from bulk to nanoscale. Additionally, we fabricate large-area 3D hierarchical hollow ceramic nano-architectures using proximity nano-patterning (PnP) technique to demonstrate the feasibility to intactly transfer the superior properties emergent only at the nanoscale to the macroscopically available form.
