A new control method for position control of DC servo motor based on the concept of variable structure control is presented. The switching curve has been employed as the desired trajectory satisfying the given performance requirement and the control input forcing the system to follow the desired model system is applied. As a result, the proposed method is robust to the varying parameter and load disturbance. The performance of the proposed controller is compared with that of the conventional state feedback controller through digital computer simulation and experiment.
