From the born of a concept 'sustainability' in 18C, this world faced the limit of growth depends on the notion as the only alternative to get on. But the word which is very vague and having ambiguous characters to lead to misuse and abuse tempts to accelerate such a use as a tool to maldevelopment. The problem, it is realized that the notion was rooted Western ideas based on Materialism, can be solved another approach reflected eastern Asian ideas highlighting the reminisce. Particularly, key factors of sustainability and sustainable development can be extracted by differences between Gaebal and Baljeon, Korean two words. Through these processes, 7 drivers named 'Hin's SUSTAIN model' were set as a sustainability assessment tool and then four cases could be proved by this model. It was a dramatic result supplemented by East-Asian Philosophy that just new model about the notion of 'sustainability' itself passed anything before or since in this field. Providing answers in view of "How" not only "what" is the biggest point of difference of these studies. Hin's SUSTAIN model as a measurement and indicator will be useful to extract key factors for sustainability of a subject in forecasting, furthermore, it will work as a breakthrough and lighthouse when one will be faced with chronic problems and Macro things, need to be sustainable, like policy planning, management, projects, products, energy, architecture, cities, agriculture, international development assistances and practical applications etc.
18세기 ‘지속가능(Sustainable)’이라는 개념이 등장한 이후 성장의 한계에 부딪힌 현대 사회는 줄곧 지속가능발전이라는 개념을 문제의 해결책으로 삼고 의존해 왔다. 문제는 지속가능의 개념 자체가 모호하고 특성이 불분명해 개념적으로 오용되고 있으며, 사업의 실행 측면에서 남용되면서 잘못된 개발을 돕는 수단이 되고 있다는 것이다. 본 논문은 그 근본적인 원인을 지속가능이란 개념이 물질주의를 기반으로 한 서구사상에서 출발했기 때문이라는 인식하에, 본성과 자발성을 강조하는 동양사상적 접근으로 대안을 찾고자 했다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 한자 문화권의 개발(開發)과 발전(發展)의 어원적 의미의 차이에서 지속가능의 결정적인 요인들을 정리하였다. 이를 바탕으로 지속가능의 핵심 동인을 7가지로 추출하고 기존의 지속가능발전이라는 미명하에 추진된 여러 사례에 대한 검증을 시도하였다. 특히 'What(무엇)'만을 중시하는 기존 연구와 달리 'How(어떻게)'에 대한 해답을 제시한 것이 본 연구의 차별성이라 하겠다. 이 Hin's SUSTAIN Model은 지속가능성 동인추출, 평가도구, 지표 등으로 활용될 수 있으며, 만성적인 기존의 문제해결이나 국가, 국제기구 등의 개발정책, 사업, 국토, 도시, 환경, 경영, 원조, 에너지 등 다방면에서 돌파구와 방향성을 제시해 줄 수 있을 것이다.
