This study aims to explore China’s diplomatic perception changes after the death of Kim Jong-il and the rise of Kim Jong-un and tries quantitative and qualitative research in People’s Daily and Guangming Daily.
The results of this research are as follows. In quantitative research, two daily newspapers demonstrate remarkable decline in absolute amount of news coverage related to North Korea after the death of Kim Jong-il and the appearance of Kim Jong-un. Also, the position in configuration and the depth of North Korea-related articles were deployed to lower phase than in the past. On the contrary, absolute amount of news coverage related to South Korea has steadily been increased and the importance and depth of the articles have been strengthened.
In qualitative research, the two newspapers have a lot of interest in traditional culture and popular culture of Korea. The phenomenon is observed that articles in tone to criticize Korean Culture are manifold.
Changes in these two newspapers can be elicited from the result to reflect the intention of the Chinese government in the nature of an official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party.
In conclusion, it could find signs of change in perception for North Korea by the Chinese government.
본 연구는 김정일 사망과 김정은 등장 이후 중국정부의 북한에 대한 외교적 인식이 변화하고 있는지를 알아보기 위해 당 기관지인 인민일보와 광명일보의 질적, 양적 분석을 시도한다. 양적 분석 결과 김정일 사망-김정은 등장을 전후해 두 신문의 북한 관련 기사의 절대량이 급감한 것으로 나타났다. 또 북한 관련 기사가 배치된 지면상 위치나 기사의 심층성도 과거에 비해 위상이 낮아진 것으로 조사됐다. 한국 관련 기사는 반대로 절대량이 꾸준하게 증가했고 기사의 중요도나 심층성이 강화되고 있었다. 질적 분석에서는 두 신문이 한국의 전통 문화나 대중 문화에 관심을 많이 갖고 있으며 최근 들어 한국 문화를 비판하는 논조의 기사들이 많이 실린 현상이 관찰됐다. 이런 두 신문의 변화는 중국 당 기관지 특성상 중국 정부의 의도가 반영된 결과라고 볼 수 있다. 결론적으로 중국 정부의 북한에 대한 인식 변화의 조짐을 발견할 수 있었다.
