Although the structure of a brushless dc motor is similar to that of a permanent magnet synchronous motor, its operating characteristics are the same an those of a permanent magnet dc motor. The brushless dc motor drive system is, therefore, composed of power converter including inverter, rotor positioning sensor and controller. In this paper, the resolver-to-digital converter is desined which gives the rotor position by digital counting method. The transformation of a brushless dc motor into an equivalent separately exited dc motor has been possible with the vector control (field orientation) technique. In this thesis, the position control of a brushless de motor fed by a current controlled voltage source inverter has been investigated.
