Heterogeneous catalysts have attracted much attention because of its wide applicability in many industries. However, understanding on their microscopic structure and phenomena has been limited due to its complexity, even though it is necessary to control the macroscopic properties of the catalysts. We believe that multiscale simulation involving atomic and molecular level of understanding can be a solution to elucidate the complex problems in the catalyst systems and to design more advanced catalysts. Hence, we have been working on (1) the mechanistic investigations on the complicated catalytic processes over several heterogeneous catalysts such as hydrogen spillover based catalysis on zeolite-encapsulated Pt catayst, direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide on carbon-coated Pt catalyst, and nitrite reduction on Pd catalyst, and (2) further designing of new catalysts such as isoelectronic alloy catalyst for $H_2$ dissociation, Ag-based catalysts for electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide, and Pt-based catalysts for electrochemical oxygen reduction reaction by performing multiscale modelling and simulation.
