In order to enhance reliability of the analog controller for a thermal power plant, a backup control system is proposed and implemented.
The proposed backup control system is composed of three parts:
i) the first part is the 16-bit microprocessor - based backup control unit,
ii) the second part is the data acquisition unit for receiving analog and digital signal data from the original controller,
and
iii) the third part is the switching unit for disjointing the analog controller from the plant.
The proposed system, which incorporates a modular concept for easy extension, would find useful applications in backing-up analog controllers for any existing plants.
