The International Standard Organization(ISO) Presentation layer provides that transform the syntax of data and negotiate the Presentation contexts between two communicating systems. The Presentation context consists of abstract syntax for a specific representation of data values in Open Systems Interconnection Environment, and transfer syntax for requirements of an application for the data transfer.
This thesis describes a formal description language for transfer syntax. The formal description language is designed so as to describe the record format, the meaning of record value and the sequence of record. We implemented an interpreter for the language. The language and interpreter support various encoding rules. Another context negotiation scheme is also proposed with these language and interpreter in the Presentation layer. The context negotiation scheme supports the unregistered transfer syntax in the Presentation layer. The entire experiment was done on the ISO Development Environment.
ISO/OSI 표현 계층은 데이타의 구문(syntax)을 변환하고 두 개의 통신 시스템들간에 표현 계층의 문맥을(presentation context)을 교섭하는 서어비스를 제공한다. 표현 계층의 문맥은 개방 시스템들간의 상호접속을 위한 환경에서 데이타값의 특정 표현에 대한 추상구문과 데이타 전송을 위한 하나의 응용분야의 요구조건인 전송구문으로 이루어져 있다. 추상구문은 기계, 언어 또는 시스템에 대하여 독립된 데이타의 표현을 위한 구문이고 전송구문은 인코딩(encoding)을 통한 자료의 전송형태에 관한 표현이다.
본 논문에서는 전송구문에 대한 하나의 정규 기술 언어를 제안하였다. 이 정규 기술언어는 레코드 형태(record format), 이 레코드 형태가 가질 수 있는 값에 대한 의미 및 레코드의 순서를 기술할 수 있도록 고안되었다. 이 언어는 ISO에서 추상구문의 표기 표준으로 제안된 ASN.1으로써 표현된 데이타를 전송할 수 있는 데이타로 변환하는 규칙을 기술하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 그리고 이 언어를 위한 인터프리터(interpreter)를 구현하여 이 언어를 이용한 전송구문의 기술을 실험하였다. 또한 이 언어를 이용하여 표현 계층에서 전송구문을 선택하여 상대측 시스템과 표현 계층의 문맥을 교섭하는 방식을 제안하였다. 이 방식은 현재 ISO를 비롯한 표준 기구에서 취하고 있는 명칭에 의한 표현 계층의 문맥 교섭 방식보다 유연성 있게 전송구문을 선택할 수 있음을 알았다. 그러나 이 방식이 실시간 응용 분야에 적용되기 위해서는 보다 완전하고 넓은 범위의 추상구문을 포함하는 언어와 인터프리터의 고안 및 설계가 요구되어진다. 그리고 이 언어의 처리를 위한 별도의 시간을 상쇄하기 위해서는 고속의 서브 네트워크의 구축이 요망된다.
