In this thesis, 5-node and 6-node transient plate bending elements were developed. These elements enable to refine the mesh of plate locally at which maximum displacement or stress occurs, together with 4-node elements.
It was proved that the stiffness concerned with shear in isoparametric plate bending element is overestimated, by comparing theoretical strain energy with isoparametric strain energy, and its cure was accomplished by addition of nonconforming displacement modes.
In the analysis of plates, use of 5-node and 6-node plate elements as transient elements gives good results compared with fine meshes composed of 4-node elements or 8-node elements only. From the results of test problems, NC5-3.3, NC5-2.2 and NC6-3.3, NC6-2.2 are recommended as transient plate bending elements with variable nodes.
