The oneset of convection in the fluid layer completely confined in a vertical annulus heated from beneth is investigated. The linearized perturbation equations are obtained in the usual manner. By using the Galerkin method, upper bounds on the critical Rayleigh number for such flows are computed, and the structure of these flows is investigated. It is found that at the onset of convection, axisymmetric ring roll similar to the geometric shape appears.
