As the usage and area of Message Handling System(MHS) are increased, the necessity for minimal information for recipients also increased. To cope with this situation, CCITT recently proposed draft recommendations on directory system, which suggests each country or organization should have its own Directory System Agent (DSA). In this thesis, we designed access methods between these DSA's which are distributed among countries or organizations.
We designed indirect access methods as well as direct access methods for the sake of user's convenience. Especially, we designed an indirect access method which is very similar to the techniques of the telephone directory system that a user can retrieve recipients information from all accessible DSA's by only one query to the local DSA. In addition, we designed direct access methods by using hints and chain mechanism for user's convenient usage.
